PROGRAM: “You’ll Get a Kick Out of Cole”

Hear America’s Orchestra celebrate the 120th Anniversary of Porter’s
birth with highlights from his dynamite shows Anything Goes, Can-Can,
Silk Stockings, and Kiss Me Kate.

Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops honor one of the greatest of the
Great American Songbook writers, Cole Porter. A supreme tunesmith and
sublime wordsmith, Porter’s saucy style and witty wordplay come to life
with Broadway stars Kelli O’Hara and Brian D’Arcy James.

From his ultra-sophisticated love songs “Night and Day,” “I Get A Kick
Out of You,” “What Is This Thing Called Love?” to his matchless melodies
“Begin the Beguine” and “It’s De-Lovely” to his hilarious humor in
“Can-Can,” “Brush Up Your Shakespeare,” and “Too Darn Hot,” hear
America’s Orchestra celebrate the 120th Anniversary of this
quintessential American tunesmith.

BIOGRAPHY:

The Boston Symphony Orchestra presents more than 250 concerts annually at Symphony Hall, Tanglewood, and Carnegie Hall, as well as throughout the United States, Europe and Asia. Starting in the 2004-2005 season, James Levine joined the Boston Symphony Orchestra as Music Director, succeeding Seiji Ozawa who lead the orchestra for more than 28-years.

Keith Lockhart currently serves as Conductor of the Boston Pops and Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the summer institute and festival at the Brevard Music Center. He recently completed his highly successful 11-year tenure as Music Director of the Utah Symphony where his leadership of the symphony allowed him to stand at the front of that organization’s historical merger with the Utah Opera to create the first-ever joint administrative arts entity of the Utah Symphony and Opera. Since the merger, arts institutions nationally and internationally have looked to Maestro Lockhart as an example of . . . an innovative thinker on and off the podium.
