Highlights Festival of Orchestras 09-10 Season

Saturday, March 27th 2010 | 8pm

Lang Lang, Piano

Christoph Eschenbach, Conductor

and the Schleswig Holstein Festival Orchestra

The Festival of Orchestras is pleased to announce world-renowned pianist Lang Lang, conductor Christoph Eschenbach and the Schleswig Holstein Festival Orchestra will highlight the 2009-2010 season. Superstars Lang Lang and Eschenbach will be accompanied by the young and talented musicians of the Schleswig Holstein Festival Orchestra, which is comprised of talented musicians all under the age of 27.

Featured in this youthful performance is classical music sensation, pianist, Lang Lang. In recent years Lang Lang performed at the opening ceremonies of the Beijing, China Olympics, and in Fall 2008 was named one of the Sexiest Men Alive by People Magazine. With increasing media presence Lang Lang has also been linked to the promotion of the first ever Internet symphony, the YouTube Symphony Orchestra, and has even contracted with Adidas for his own customized shoe that may be bought by his many fans.

The New York Times has said,

“The hottest artist on the Classical Music Planet may well be

 the Chinese pianist Lang Lang.”

Best known for his exaggerated facial expressions and performance behavior, critics dare say these trademarks hinder his playing ability. On contrary these trademarks have brought him world wide fame and popularity as a musician and entertainer for the masses.

Conducted by Alexei Kornienko, The Moscow State Radio Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1979 as an outgrowth of the need for the symphonic repertoire of the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. This was in response to a need for broadcasting throughout Russia to benefit citizens, and it was decided that the Orchestra should broadcast performances on a weekly basis. The Orchestra expanded its activities into Russian television, including projects with Korean KBC and German ZDF. Joining the Moscow State Radio Symphony is violinist Nadeza Tokareva who has been a soloist with the Moscow State Academic Philharmonic Society, with which she has performed numerous concerts in the great halls of Russia, as well as concert venues throughout the former Soviet Republics, Europe, Israel, Turkey, China, Vietnam, and the United States. Alongside Nadeza and Moscow State Radio Symphony will be pianist Alexei Nabioulin best known for his international breakthrough by winning Second Prize at the prestigious Tchaikovsky International Competition in Moscow in 2002.
